Xcode & Device Hub
Quick answer: ButterKit’s Capture Tool imports screenshots straight from Xcode into your App Store designs. It works with the Simulator app in Xcode 26 and earlier, and with Device Hub, the window that hosts simulators in Xcode 27. Run your app, press Capture, and the screenshot lands in a 3D device frame ready for translation and export.
What is Xcode Device Hub?
Device Hub is the app Xcode 27 uses to run and manage simulated and physical devices, and it takes the place of the standalone Simulator app. When you run your app on a simulator, Device Hub opens a compact window showing the device screen. Expand it to reveal a sidebar of devices, the canvas, and an inspector. Apple documents the details in its Device Hub guide. Xcode 27 runs on macOS 26.6 or later, so you don’t need macOS 27 to use it.
Does ButterKit work with Device Hub?
Yes. ButterKit v2.2.20 and later detect Device Hub the same way they detect Simulator. The Capture Tool appears beside the compact or expanded Device Hub window, captures the device shown in the canvas, and hides when Device Hub loses focus. Nothing changes in your workflow: the same Capture button, the same one-click localization swaps, and the same 3D device framing.
Frequently asked questions
Does the ButterKit Capture Tool work with Xcode 27 Device Hub?
Yes. ButterKit v2.2.20 and later support Device Hub, the window that hosts simulators in Xcode 27. The Capture Tool appears next to the Device Hub window exactly as it did next to Simulator. See Capture from Xcode Simulator or Device Hub.
Do I still need the Simulator app to use ButterKit?
No. On Xcode 27, simulators run inside Device Hub and the Capture Tool attaches to it. On Xcode 26 and earlier, the Capture Tool works with the Simulator app as before.
Where does Xcode save simulator screenshots?
Both Simulator and Device Hub save screenshots to your Desktop by default. ButterKit’s Capture Tool skips the Desktop entirely and stores captures inside your .butterkit document. Details are in Where are iOS Simulator screenshots saved?.
